The Canadian MSM at its finest:

A visibly weak Chief Theresa Spence made a brief appearance on Sunday — in Day 20 of her fast —as a parade of politicians and protesters turned up the volume to demand action from the Harper government on treaty issues.

Through a spokesperson, the chief of the Attawapiskat First Nation said she was “deeply humbled” by the support she’s received from aboriginals and non-aboriginals in her appeal for a face-to-face meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Gov. Gen. David Johnston.

Poor dearie. 

Those with longish memories, or those possessing an internet connection, might be aware of certain interesting facts about Chief Spence.

The Chief oversees an annual budget of $31.2 million a year. The band has a permanent population of less than two thousand. That works out to about $15,500 per resident. Yet the reserve has living conditions that would shame certain Third World dictatorships. Compared to other small communities of similar size and location the band administration is remarkably inefficient, if that's the word, in managing its resources. Did we mention that Chief Spence's common-law husband was brought in a few years back to monitor accounting procedures? That said common-law husband is now Deputy Chief?

Did we also mention that there is a diamond mine on the band's traditional lands? Yes an actual de Beers diamond mine.

You can't make this stuff up.

Many of our readers will recall that Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was nearly thrown out of office last month for the most technical violation of conflict of interest guidelines. Imagine if Mayor Ford had appointed his wife to oversee the books. You can't because the Toronto MSM and electorate would have screamed bloody murder and Ford would likely have been forced from office, with or without judicial assistance. Had the Mayor then gone on a hunger strike, to protest scrutiny of the public accounts, he would have been met with laughter and derision.

But Rob Ford is big fat white guy. He's held to the normal standards of a modern liberal democracy.

Chief Spence is an aboriginal. Because of this a shroud of racially derived invisibility descends upon her, shielding her from the most routine of questioning. A half-way competent journalist might suggest that Chief Spence, perfectly aware that the federal government has spent years trying to sort through the band's books, could be afraid of a full scope audit. By engaging in a high profile publicity stunt she is very neatly distracting attention from the band's highly questionable fiscal record. This may or may not be so. Yet it seems a plausible enough line of inquiry. 

Instead we have fawning pieces about Chief Spence being visited by Justin Trudeau and Joe Clark  matched with harrowing accounts of the Chief's impending martyrdom. The gullible MSM laps it up without any hesitation. There is little examination as to what the Chief wishes to talk to Stephen Harper about. There is some vague talk about "partnership" and not much else. Spence has a democratic mandate, possibly, from the fewer than 2000 residents of Attawapiskat. She is in no way entitled to negotiated on behalf of the aboriginal peoples of Canada as a whole. This is assuming she has any concrete demands beyond more money being shovelled into the bottomless pit of Attawapiskat.

This is a protest about nothing that has been elevated into a national crisis by a willing media.

On the theory that if you can't guilt them you can always scare them, the surprisingly well timed Idle No More movement is threatening to paralyze the Canadian economy.  The police are showing their usual reluctance to enforce the law. Caledonia was a small town. The Windsor to Quebec City corridor is the backbone of the Canadian economy. It will be interesting to see the pain threshold of our political class. Actually enforcing the law is politically out of the question. Even Stephen Harper is afraid of being called a racist. The most likely end result is that, as with Caledonia, one or both senior levels of government will pay some Danegeld into the appropriate coffers.

White people, as two generations of aboriginal "protesters" have discovered, are extremely easy to manipulate. Too afraid to defend themselves and too craven to point out the grotesque abuses that many aboriginal governments inflict on their own people, the white folks who still comprise the majority of the Canadian electorate are easy to blackmail. Despite the overwhelming evidence that many of Canada's reserves are little better than sub-arctic kleptocracies, propped up by the Canadian taxpayer, for reasons of racially driven political correctness we all agree to look away.

This is Canada today. Canada in twenty years time may very well have a Prime Minister Gupta or Chan. It is rather unlikely that the children of immigrants from actual Third World kleptocracies, completely immune to the disorder of white liberal guilt, will glady continue to repeat in Canada the sort of madness and corruption their parents strove to escape. Just as the Quebecois nationalist game of blackmail is doomed by the demographic decline of the WASPs, so too is the race hustling that has been practiced by scores of aboriginal leaders for decades.

The residents of Attawapiskat are indeed the victims of racism. But it is the newfangled racism that refuses to treat racial minorities by the same standards as the rest of society. For centuries the classical liberals of the English speaking world strove to establish equality before the law. Over the last four decade their modern liberal successors have destroyed that principle.

What the aboriginals of Canada need is full Canadian citizenship, including the rights of private property and responsible government in their communities. What the MSM needs to do is learn how to be actual journalists once again, instead of cheerleaders for a low-grade race hustler.

With the prospect of Justin Trudeau as the new hero of Canadian politics, I'm not optimistic.

Ezra Levant, on the Source at Sun Media (BTW let’s support the only sane outlet in the land), spent about 30 minutes skewering the racist reporting of the MSM. This is really reverse racism by the elitist media.

Instead of pushing for an audit of Mayor Theresa the MSM is in fact doing harm to the 99% of Indians who are entitled to their entitlements but don’t get them because Mayor Theresa keeps the entitlements for herself, her boyfriend and pals. She’s a media manipulator who would make Al Gore blush.

Oh and Ezra had video shot of Justin sitting beside Theresa stroking a feather (at least I think it was a feather).
