Since many of you are both political and history junkies, I thought I'd recommend the following. CPAC has an excellent series entitled The Premiers which chronicles the life and times of a prominent provincial leader in all ten provinces. Some are well known figures even today, Tommy Douglas and Maurice Duplessis, many others are forgotten. From a broadly conservative perspective I would recommend the bios of WAC Bennett (BC), John Bracken (Manitoba) and Walter Jones (PEI). There are amusing moments in the bios of Bracken and Jones when petitioners come to the legislatures asking for bailouts. Bracken and Jones gave very blunt rejections. Jones in particular mocked farmers asking for a government subsidy as not being real farmers, since real farmers would be too busy working.
