John Chittick

"A distinction not often enough made is between schooling and education."

Further to that gem is the whole enshrined "tenure" of guild socialism - the notion that "professions" and "trades" require "right to practice legislation" which creates whole industries of monopolistic rent seekers. Voluntary standards and organizations associated with professions and trades independent of state coercion cannot restrict trade and commerce the way it happens now. Recent examples of mischievous successful rent seeking guilds (exercising state power) include various provincial law societies which are now attempting to bar any future law graduates from BC's Trinity Western University based on that private school's fundamentalist mandatory sexual behavior contract with students.
