Trudeaupia 2.0 is putting the crony back into capitalism:
If the federal government bails out Quebec-based aerospace giant Bombardier with a financial aid package, Manitobans will expect financial help for more than 400 workers who were laid off by aircraft maintenance company Aveos in Winnipeg in 2012, say Manitoba Liberal MPs.
“There’s a strong group of Liberal MPs who will fight for our aerospace industry, and that means whether it’s Air Canada, Bombardier, or even local companies here in Winnipeg, that we believe need to be given attention,” Liberal MP Kevin Lamoureux (Winnipeg North, Man.) said in an interview with The Hill Times last week.
Where does it stop? The answer is never. If Quebec must be bribed to keep it's white elephant from drowning, then Manitoba must get help for its failing industries too. It won't be very long until Kathleen Wynne demands subsidies for the province's struggling manufacturers, the ones that her high energy prices have helped drive to the brink. If the Wicked Witch of Queen's Park gets her way the circle will be complete. Her policies cause certain industries to fail, those industries then seek a bail out, to pay for the bailout taxes must be raised from the productive sectors of the economy. Those sectors - now burdened with heavier taxes - will soon enough be driven to the wall. In time they too will need to be bailed out. It will be like Britain in the late 1970s. Perhaps Warren Kinsella can play London Calling as what's left of the Canadian economy sinks into oblivion.
